“Today is a New Beginning”
Hate your customers. Find new ones.
Is it really that easy? YES.
But you have to be willing to decide to do this… now this seems like an odd conversation right from the get go! I mean, why do you hate your customers?
Well… if you hate your customers, the why is the reason you hate them! The reason you hate them is because you did not define what type of person you wanted to work with, then you needed money, and all sudden you’re working with people you hate.
Now… how is it possible that there are people you hate? OH MY –these are the customers that make you want to lock the door as soon as you see them get out of their car. It’s the person who’s voice on the phone makes nails on a chalkboard seem musical. You have them, trust me.
For me… oh yes. The reason I bring this up is the guy I had earlier this week. He just couldn’t get past the issue that we did an emergency repair on his boat because it was an explosion risk. Yes. Explosion as in turn the key… Russian roulette… boom. I’ve never had ANYONE say anything but “thank you” for discovering this problem and fixing it- not this guy. He coudn’t get out of his own way to realize that the repair was absolutely necessary.
So this is someone I have zero desire to work with and zero desire to attract… so now what?
Well, just like our inspiration says, “Today is a new day” – and as of right now I must work to attract people that are not him… infact, I must attract the “not him”. The way to do this is to make a list.
A list? YES – make a list of your ideal customer. You need a “must have” and a “must not have” list of characteristics. So clearly, “owns a mechanically sound boat” goes on the “must have” side while “poorly maintained boat” goes on the “must not have” side. Then when you make your marketing materials you use these buzz words… such as, “Safe boating starts with a mechanically superior boat” – then raise your prices.
Honestly, raising your prices often attracts a different client, one that can afford your services! This alone may clear up your problem.
Remember we are here to switch from a “one and done” philosophy to an Infinity Marketing Machine… it’s critical that the very foundation of tribe building starts with your “must have” and “must not have” list of characteristics! If you don’t… OMG you’re going to end up with an entire group of customers that stick around that do not mesh with your own values. PLEASE DO THIS! Take the time to focus on what you really want to attract in customers, it will make your business and life much much better!
