There’s a big difference between imitating and copying. Do not copy… but don’t be afraid to imitate.
What do I mean?
There is a reason we have the expression “don’t reinvent the wheel”, the reason is so we don’t waste our time trying to create and discover for ourselves a skill or task that someone already has done.
Imagine if every time you wanted to buy a set of tires for your car someone had to go out and create a wheel…
Let’s think about gymnasts. They start with a forward roll or cartwheel… a skill they are taught. They do not create these skills, they learn them from someone else.
The funny thing about gymnastics is how it improves and evolves. The reason I mention this is because I keep getting random videos on my YouTube feed about gymnasts… (ugh, what’s the strangest suggested video you’ve received? I had a train crash video yesterday…. why???) Anyway, the thing with the gymnasts… you watch the winners from the Olympics 40 years ago and they wouldn’t even qualify today.
It’s because they were cutting edge at the time, with all the best coaches. Now they built upon their skill sets, watched others, and built upon those skill sets…
Did you catch that, they watched others and built upon other people’s skill sets.
This is why you hire a coach. This is why you accelerate your learning curve by hiring expertise whether it’s by one-on-one or video or course.
What are you doing in your business that is hard and can you hire a coach to help? What are you doing that is easy that you can teach?
Two great questions to ask yourself today… write down your answers and develop a plan on how you can share your knowledge and where you can go to gain knowledge… add a time line! You need deadlines. I mean, what else are you doing to do? Watch your YouTube feed?
