I remember attending a conference  a couple years back… and by “a couple years” I mean at least 4 years.  The crazy thing is I remember something the speaker said.

She said, “How many of you have an employee that is cranky, hostile, lazy, or just mean?”

Everyone in the room had their hand in the air in agreement.

Then she said, “… Annnnd you’re paying this person to act this way?. hummmm”

That’s how she started her presentation.

Again, how many presentations have you watched or attended and what do you remember of the sessions from at least 4 years ago?

My point is… this was a very powerful and impactful statement.

But what if YOU’RE the cranky, hostile, lazy or mean person?


Yes… you now own the business and others work for you… so I’m just sayin you may still have a problem.

But it’s more than that.  Even if your not cranky or mean… what if you come to work and you are not leading.  What if you are going through the motions with a “good enough” mentality.

Now, I assume that most of you reading this are interested in your businesses because you are seeking insight for improvement… otherwise, why read blogs.

Yet… today’s quote is still here for us to read.

How are you acting?

The reason I mention this today is because my system of creating a tribe and offering products is kinda a “new marketing” concept.

Last week I was at a boating conference and I worked out a wholesale/drop ship relationship.  I have no idea how much I’ll sell… but if I don’t have to carry inventory or pack up stuff to mail… I’m pretty excited.

To get to that agreement, I just said, “I build a tribe and offer items to buy” so I plan to create offers.  I have no idea how much will sell weekly, but it’s not a traditional store front where people find me and buy stuff.  (although I have that function too).

Both the sales rep and his manager just looked at me.

I could tell they were processing what I just said.  “I build a tribe and offer items for them to buy”  It didn’t freak them out.  It was just new.

But my reputation and consistent behavior was the reason they said “yes”.

Sure… you are building your tribe and they need a credible leader… but you are also building relationships with mentors, distributors and sales people.  They need to trust you as well.

Your “About Me” section on your website can be a powerful tool.  Today, take a look at it and see what needs to be updated AND what you can do to enhance it.

Set those credibility goals and get to work!
