Monday: Subject Matter Expert

Are you busy? The common answer is YES!
Now with busy comes a very important responsibility… yes, a responsibility of being busy is… You need to keep learning.
OMG, seriously?
YES!
One pillar of the 5c’s of Tribeology is to be credible. Credibility allows people (your tribe) to know, like, and trust you. And this is accomplished externally by providing content that your tribe wants and needs…
But it also comes from you, as a leader, being an expert in your field.
You can exhibit this leadership with third party endorsements such as awards and degrees… but this is great, a moment frozen in time.
For example, I have a degree in Marketing…. but it predates the Internet… dang, that makes me feel really old, and it’s not entirely true. We had Gopher (email) I think there may have been a world wide web, but my first use of Netscape was when at my first job 4 months after I graduated!
I don’t think that made me sound any younger.
But here’s my point. Although I acquired my formal marketing knowledge before the internet… doesn’t mean I can stop learning. Now I enjoy marketing so reading books and magazines, watching videos, attending conferences and testing new skills is fun. But it’s also super valuable in being able to teach others.
This is what you need to do, too. You are ultra busy in your normal day to day activities, but keep learning. Grab a book and start reading… OR my hint is to start listening to an audio book!
What ever it takes, keep learning and keep sharing what you learn. This will build confidence as the leader of your tribe.
