“What you do today is important because you are exchanging a day of your life.”
When you read today’s inspiration, think deeply. You have exchanged time in your life to read my blog. YIKES. That means, at the end of your life, when you calculate all the things you did in your life, reading my blog was one of them. WOW. Thank you for reading!
But that’s just it. How you spend your time, or more important, the crazy stuff you waste your time doing, all adds up.
How many times have you binge watched a show, surfed the net a little longer than you planned, or went shopping just to get away. Well, it all adds up. Now here’s the awesome news. While you are trading time in your life for the activities that seem to “waste” time… You can’t possibly keep up a 100% valuable output day. You’ve got to take time to chill. Otherwise you’ll burn out.
So while I’m an advocate of not wasting time, you need a balance. Unfortunately there no such thing as a “work life balance” I laugh anytime I hear someone utter those words. Your work is your life. It’s not like you get those 8 or more hours back… you make the effort to do whatever it is that makes you money. You must enjoy your work because if you do not, your life is unbalanced. It’s as simple as that.
How is this motivating?
It’s giving you permission to veg out. The inspiration for today places too much emphasis on the go getter, non stop, hustle or else mentality. There’s a point where you need to say, “am I enjoying the journey?” If you feel like you don’t have time to breathe or that you are trading alternatives you do not like…
stop and regroup.
You started this business to avoid feeling this way. Focus on what is important to you, even if that means you go back to your very foundation and determine why you started your business. But never should it make you feel like you question the importance of the task at hand. I mean if it does… wow. If you read today’s inspiration and thought to yourself, “that quote really turned my head because what I’m doing right now is not worth it”. Then hopefully you have a new perspective and can determine a different plan forward.
I think it’s an outstanding quote. But I think it’s outstanding in the respect that you should never “get behind the 8 ball”. This quote should be a mental barometer or even a baseline. If you ever feel like what you are doing challenges your “I’m on my death bed evaluating how I spent my time” list… then you’ve got to make correction.
Keep this quote handy. Put it on your wall. Use it as your happy place to know exactly why you are working so hard at something you love!
