What is the best way to communicate your message as a subject matter expert?  The answer may surprise you.  The best way to communicate your message is to communicate it!

In addition to your general website, Linked-in, or Facebook page you’ll want to have an outlet for your thoughts.  This can be one of three ways; blog, podcast or vlog.

Let’s explore.

If you enjoy writing and communicating your thoughts via typing is awesome, then blog.  A blog is simply a current website.  You create your posts about a centralized topic and they are housed in one site. Typically you can categorize (tag) the post to make it easier for fans to find relevant information. WordPress has been easy to use, check it out.

Podcasting is a blast if you enjoy talking but don’t want to be on camera.  The good news is it’s fairly  easy to record a podcast, depending on your expectations.  I use my phone to record and upload.  The harder thing is to not know exactly who your followers are… Apple keeps this a secret.  So while you can build a nice listener base, unless you capture them in another method, you won’t know who they are.

Vloging is a video blog.  It’s a great way to easily record messages and your audience builds a loyalty to you.  It makes you relatable and again, it is something that can be done with your phone… but the hard thing is pressing record.  If your self-conscious about being on camera, practice recording but not publishing.  If it stresses you out, don’t do it.  You need to enjoy the daily routine!  Don’t force yourself to do something you hate.  This should be fun.

The reason you need to communicate your thoughts via one of these three channels is to get your message “out there” share your information and position yourself as a subject matter expert.  It’s great to focus on other parts of the site such as honors and awards. But, when it comes right down to it, what you have to say is the most important part of your brand.

Pick the right platform that helps you communicate your thoughts and messages.

The best part about picking your platform is you will develop your style.  As you can tell in my writing, I have a conversational style.  It’s not perfect writing. But it gets my message across. I choose to share information.  If I focused on my writing perfection, I’d never publish anything!

So my advice, pick the platform and start.  Do it now.
