Can you be a Subject Matter Expert for a Bakery?  Maybe.

There are lots and lots of different types of bakeries.  Off the top of my head there’s the bakery at a restaurant, the bakery in the grocery store, a mass bakery that send cookies across the country, the bakery that creates wedding cakes, and a cupcake store.

They all create baked goods.

So… my original question, can you be a Subject Matter Expert for a Bakery?  I argue that you can but not as a whole for the entire industry, but for a specialty… yes. Absolutely.

If your bakery does not serve pie, you cannot be a Subject Matter Expert of pies, however, if you have won an award for a cupcake flavor or cake design, you are an expert.

Someone outside of the industry has recognized you.

Even without the awards your secret power is hidden in one aspect or specialty of your business.

so… yes, everyone can be a Subject Matter Expert and the beauty of this entire discussion is that the internet is so large AND easy to access that there’s a niche for you.

You just must be willing to do it.

If you feel overwhelmed by saying your an expert at the bakery… try being an expert at creating woven crusts on pies… or two toned frosting for cupcakes… or, you get my point.

In your industry there is a need for your expertise – this is what you need to communicate and it will attract your tribe.

Today, take 10 minutes, use a brainstorm session, and explore each of your profit centers… ask, “what do I do really well?”

You don’t have to reveal your “secret sauce” but there is a process or procedure that is unique to you, emphasize this and attract your ideal customers that also understand the importance of this process/innovation.

It’s an excellent way to find your Unique Selling Point or Unique Selling Proposition.

Now, actually do this… it’s very easy to read and think, yeah…that’s a good idea.  But pick up your phone, set a 10 minute timer… or just yell at siri and ask her to set a timer… start brainstorming!
