Quit comparing yourself. Focus on your niche and be the best at it.
Simple words – but what does this really mean?
It means be the best in your niche… I’ve never given it much thought until I started watching a YouTube channel a couple weeks ago.
Have you ever had something come up in your feed and wondered how the heck it arrived there? Yeah… I’m trying to figure out why I’m being inundated with gymnastic channels, but I am!
The thing that captured my attention is I’ve watched, the East Family — it’s Shaun Johnson’s channel with her husband. NOW… it’s fun, the focus is on family and she’s an Olympic Gold medalist so there’s always words of inspiration and motivation.
BUT
This made another show of three gymnasts around 15 years old come up on my feed and it was ironic. They had a show “annoying things people ask gymnasts” – and the one topic was, “Are you going to the Olympics?”
Very few people compete in the Olympics. I mean winning a state championship is incredible in the life of an athlete… but this question stood out to me.
Now think of today’s inspiration, “do small things in a great way” The girls in the second show will not be Olympic athletes, they have skills, but the skills are attainable by many gymnasts…. and they have a show – they have slightly more views than the Olympic champion.
NOW… why is this?
When you are relatable you will be successful.
The three athletes are like the athletes in their club. The things they highlight/feature are what the audience has experienced.
So yes… credibility is build by doing small things in an amazing way… As you do your blog, vlog, or podcast – just do it the best you can. Lead your tribe and your authenticity will cause them to follow.
